Why Do You Need Directory Submission or Social Bookmarking?

This was indeed the question I asked when we were talking about the scope of SEO process. According to my friend who has been in this business for years, there are many SEO friendly sites, which believe in the concept of enlisting your site in the directories. As soon as it is listed in say 100 directories, you actually enhance the scope of your business. There is a small catch. When you are submitting the site, it does not necessarily mean that it will be enlisted with the search engine. It also does not ensure that you are going to have a good ranking. However when you are submitting the content of the site, it at least increases the chance of getting through a search engine. It is better to pay a certain amount if you are planning for directory submission. Most of the FFA or Free for ALL sites are either penalized or banned by the leading search engines. A good ranking in one of the leading search engines is a far better option than to be featured in a number of sites, which will neither help in web traffic nor in revenue generation.
